Product Introduction
The Somerville Standard Screen (Somerville type) is a dedicated laboratory pulp screening device manufactured in accordance with the TAPPI T275 standard. It separates and quantifies impurities such as stickies, plastics, sand, and metal particles from pulp through vertical oscillation of the screen plate. The device employs high-frequency vibration screening technology, with a screen plate size of 307 mm × 268 mm, a standard slot width of 0.3 mm, totaling 756 slots, an amplitude of 3.2±0.1 mm, and a water flow rate of 8.6 L/min. Optional screen plates with slot widths of 0.15 mm, 0.2 mm, 0.35 mm, and 0.4 mm are available for different impurity size detection needs. It is widely used for pulp quality evaluation and process control.

FAQ
1. Slow screening, low throughput
Slots clogged with fibers or insufficient water pressure. Stop and rinse screen plate; adjust to standard water pressure.
2. Screen plate clogging, blinding
Pulp consistency too high or excessive impurities. Dilute stock; regularly backflush with clean water.
3. Inaccurate screening results, large data deviation
Unstable amplitude or abnormal speed. Inspect eccentric; calibrate operating speed.
4. Excessive machine vibration, abnormal noise
Loose footings or aged rubber damping mounts. Tighten footings; replace damping pads.
5. Water leakage and stock escaping
Aged gaskets on upper/lower chambers or clamps not locked. Replace gaskets; clamp door tightly.
6. Water pressure below standard
Clogged inlet filter or kinked piping. Clean filter; straighten water supply lines.
7. Motor overheating, weak operation
Prolonged continuous operation or bearings lacking grease. Allow intermittent cooling; lubricate bearings regularly.
8. Turbid discharge, incomplete screening
Screen plate deformed or damaged, or slots excessively worn. Replace with same-specification standard screen plate.
9. Breaker trips on startup
Wiring damp or motor overloaded. Dry circuitry; reduce single feed quantity.
10. Amplitude too low, below standard
Eccentric mass displaced or loose. Readjust counterweight; tighten and lock.

The Somerville Fractionator (also known as the Somerville-type screen) is a standard instrument used in the pulp and paper industry for quantitatively determining the impurity content in pulp. Its working principle involves injecting a pulp suspension of known mass into the screening chamber. Under constant water flow and vibration of the screen plate, fibers smaller than the slot width pass through the slots along with water into the lower collection chamber, while impurities larger than the slot width—such as stickies, plastic fragments, bark, sand, and grit—are retained on the screen plate. The screened residue is collected, dried, and weighed to calculate the impurity content of the pulp. This method holds significant application value in the evaluation of recycled pulp quality, diagnosis of paper machine cleanliness, and assessment of process chemical effectiveness, and is standardized by international methods such as TAPPI T275.
