lab coater

A lab coater is a specialized piece of equipment used in research, development, and small-scale production to apply precise thin films, coatings, or layers onto a wide range of substrates. It is widely used in laboratories where consistency, repeatability, and control over coating thickness are essential. By allowing users to test materials and processes on a smaller scale, a lab coater helps accelerate product development and optimize formulations before moving to larger manufacturing systems. The main function of a lab coater is to deposit a uniform coating onto surfaces such as plastic film, paper, metal foil, glass, fabric, or other flexible and rigid materials. Depending on the model and application, it may support different coating methods, including slot-die coating, knife coating, doctor blade coating, bar coating, or roll coating. This versatility makes it suitable for industries such as batteries, electronics, pharmaceuticals, packaging, optics, and advanced materials research.A typical lab coater is designed with precision control systems that regulate coating speed, gap, pressure, and temperature. These features are important because even small changes in process conditions can affect coating quality, adhesion, drying behavior, and final performance. Many units also include adjustable substrate handling systems, vacuum tables, heating platforms, and programmable motion controls to ensure stable and accurate operation. Some advanced models provide digital interfaces that make it easy to set parameters, store process recipes, and monitor production data. One of the key advantages of a lab coater is its ability to save material, time, and cost during development. Instead of running large and expensive production trials, researchers can evaluate different coating formulations and process settings on a small scale. This allows faster troubleshooting and more efficient optimization. In addition, laboratory coating systems are often compact and easy to integrate into cleanroom or controlled environments, making them practical for modern research facilities.Another important benefit is reproducibility. A well-designed lab coater helps users achieve consistent coating results from sample to sample, which is critical when comparing materials or validating new processes. Reliable repeatability supports accurate testing and improves confidence in scaling up from laboratory experiments to pilot or industrial production. In many applications, the lab coater is used together with drying ovens, curing systems, thickness measurement tools, and quality inspection equipment. This creates a complete workflow for preparing and evaluating coated samples. Whether used for developing battery electrodes, functional films, protective layers, or specialty surfaces, the lab coater plays an important role in innovation and product development.Overall, a lab coater is an essential tool for precise thin-film processing. Its flexibility, accuracy, and efficiency make it valuable for laboratories that require controlled coating performance and reliable experimental results.

The Multi-Functional Coater is a continuous roll-to-roll coating and laminating system designed for laboratory R&D and small-scale pilot production on flexible web materials such as paper and film. It features an effective coating width of 280 mm, a roller face width of 300 mm, and an adjustable mechanical speed range of 0.5-5 m/min. The coating unit supports modular switching among metering rod, blade, gravure roll, and film-transfer methods. Unwind and rewind diameters are up to φ350 mm with 3" air shafts and automatic tension control, achieving edge alignment within ±2.0 mm. The drying system consists of two external stainless-steel electric-heated ovens with centrifugal fan hot-air circulation and precise temperature control from 30 to 120°C ±2°C. The entire line is centrally managed via a touchscreen HMI, with servo motors driving the coating and winding sections in active synchronization. Total installed power is approximately 6 kW. It is ideal for continuous coating process development and sample preparation of water-based and solvent-based coatings, battery slurries, optical films, and adhesives.
